The Watsco Center, a multipurpose venue that demanded a custom technical solution

Located in Coral Gables, the Watsco Center has become one of the most prominent multipurpose venues in South Florida. Opened in 2003 and with a capacity of approximately 8,000 spectators, it has hosted major sporting events, renowned concerts and large-scale institutional ceremonies. Its enclosed design and flexible infrastructure allow it to adapt to a wide range of shows and technical requirements.

On 19 July 2025, the Watsco Center hosted the live concert of La Diosa de Cuba, who presented her album Joyas. The setlist blended updated versions of Cuban classics with urban music and contemporary rhythms. On stage, the artist was accompanied by a band featuring Afro-Cuban percussion, keyboard, guitar and a strong team of backing vocalists. This stylistic diversity required a sound system capable of adapting to various nuances, ensuring clarity, power and balance at all times.

La Diosa de Cuba and her musical richness in a sensitive environment

Although the Watsco Center is fully equipped to host large-scale concerts, its status as a multipurpose venue brings a number of technical particularities that must be carefully considered for each production. Its enclosed and versatile design, intended for everything from sporting events to musical performances and academic ceremonies, demands precise acoustic planning to optimise intelligibility and control unwanted reflections.

On this occasion, the musical proposal of La Diosa de Cuba added an extra layer of complexity: a performance that ranged from ballads to urban beats, with richly nuanced instrumental sections and high-energy vocal moments. Ensuring clear and even sound reproduction across this wide spectrum, without any loss of definition, required a system with dynamic capacity and controlled coverage.

Another key factor was the surrounding environment. The Watsco Center is located in an active university area, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and residential buildings. This required special attention to sound control beyond the venue, avoiding any noise pollution that could disturb the neighbourhood.

The ARA and EVENT series delivered accurate and powerful coverage

To meet the needs of the event, Limitless Productions deployed a configuration of our systems optimised to deliver precise and balanced coverage throughout the venue.

Twelve LARA systems per line array served as the main PA, reinforced by sixteen LARA-SUB subwoofers to ensure punch and depth in the low frequencies. Six ARA-P28 units were used as front fills, providing clear sound for the front rows.

On the sides, four SARA-SUB subwoofers and six EVENT-26A systems were installed as side fills, with particular attention paid to directionality to avoid sound spill outside the venue. In this regard, the cardioid technology of the ARA series made it possible to control sound dispersion, preventing leakage into external areas and complying with the acoustic requirements of a sensitive environment like Coral Gables.

Finally, the artist team used four EVENT-210M monitors on stage, ensuring clear and powerful monitoring throughout the show.

Cardioid technology enabled effective sound control

Thanks to careful planning and a setup perfectly adapted to the space, the concert of La Diosa de Cuba at the Watsco Center was a success both musically and technically. The variety of styles, the nature of the venue and its acoustic characteristics were all addressed by a reliable, precise and balanced system that delivered a high-quality experience for both the audience and the professionals involved.
