Located in Palm Desert, California, Hope Lutheran Church recently undertook a complete renovation of its sound system with a clear goal: to provide a clearer, more immersive, and more enjoyable acoustic experience for all attendees. Over time, the church had experienced issues with coverage and definition, affecting both the congregation and the choir. The need for clear, well-distributed, and easy-to-manage sound led the church team to seek a professional audio solution tailored to their spaces.
For this ambitious project, the church turned to Maverick Productions, an integration company specializing in audiovisual solutions, which in turn selected DAS Audio technology as the foundation of the system. Jonathan Lein, integrator at Maverick, explained:
“They weren’t looking for a concert experience, but rather a pleasant sound that would help foster connection. And that’s precisely what DAS delivers.”
The solution needed to respect the venue’s architecture and adapt to both the main sanctuary and the Hope Center, a multipurpose room used for various events. Beyond volume, the goal was to achieve clarity, consistency, and ease of use for both the church’s technical and non-technical staff.
The main sanctuary presented specific acoustic challenges. To ensure uniform and discreet coverage, 24 EVENT-26A units were installed, distributed across three strategic zones. Additionally, two EVENT-115A subwoofers were added to reinforce low frequencies, and ARTEC-308 speakers were used to cover additional areas without compromising the space’s aesthetics.
The installation, completed in six weeks, included structural reinforcement in the ceilings, concealed wiring, and speaker adaptation to the architectural design. The result: a church sound system that maintains consistent sound pressure throughout the room and visually blends with the space.
One of the major achievements was eliminating floor monitors for the 50-member choir. Thanks to the new system, auxiliary devices are no longer needed for musicians to hear each other. Pastor Rick Bailard summarized the impact of the upgrade:
“It’s been a significant improvement.”
In the Hope Center, a more dynamic and informal setting where Sunday services are also held, a configuration with greater sound impact was chosen. Twelve EVENT-208A speakers and two EVENT-218A subwoofers were installed, delivering power, clarity, and a stronger response.
Unlike the main sanctuary, this installation was completed in just one week. Since then, the system has provided consistent, high-quality performance. According to Jonathan Lein:
“The goal was to make the sound truly felt, and we achieved that. The system’s quality and performance have been very satisfying.”
Moreover, its intuitive interface has enabled the church’s non-technical staff to operate the system with complete confidence.
