A music and automotive festival in Indonesia’s cultural heart  

The JVWF Music Fest is the closing concert of the Jogja Volkswagen Festival, a biennial event held in Yogyakarta — a city located on the island of Java and widely regarded as one of Indonesia’s main cultural hubs. The 2025 edition marked the twelfth installment of the festival and took place on July 13th at the Gadjah Mada University grounds, bringing together over 3,000 people for a day of open-air concerts and a large exhibition of classic Volkswagen vehicles.  

The musical lineup featured several well-known Indonesian bands: Sheila On 7, a pop-rock group from Yogyakarta that has sold over 8 million albums in Indonesia and became the country’s first band to sell more than a million copies of each of their first three albums; HIVI!, known for their melodic pop sound; Good Morning Everyone, with an alternative rock style; and Hunian, an emerging name in the local Indie Pop scene.  

In addition to the concerts, the festival hosted an extensive exhibition of classic Volkswagen vehicles, attracting collectors, car clubs, and restoration specialists from across the country. Models such as the Beetle, the Kombi, and other iconic editions were displayed across the university campus, alongside parallel activities including contests, parades, and themed camping zones.  

The sound system installation was carried out by 162 Production, a Yogyakarta-based company specializing in sound, lighting, and control solutions. For this edition of the festival, they chose systems from the EVENT series, delivering clear and stable audio coverage tailored to the characteristics of the space.  

Sound coverage in an open space with overlapping activities 

The main technical challenge at JVWF Music Fest 2025 was to ensure even sound coverage in a completely open environment, with large crowds moving constantly between the concert area and the vehicle exhibition zone. The outdoor stage, located on a university campus, requires a precise system setup to maintain sound pressure and intelligibility throughout the area without generating excess levels in the outer sections.  

Additionally, the proximity between the main stage and the classic car exhibition made it essential to carefully control the sound to avoid interfering with the festival’s parallel activities. The system had to deliver strong performance in the front-of-house area without spilling into zones dedicated to walking, resting, or automotive displays.  

60 EVENT systems for powerful and efficient coverage 

To meet the needs of JVWF Music Fest, systems from the EVENT series were installed. The main PA consisted of 24 EVENT-210A systems, arranged in a left/right configuration of 12 per side, supported by 18 EVENT-218A subwoofers.  

As out-fill, 12 EVENT-210A systems were installed, split into two arrays of six per side. Additionally, 6 EVENT-210A systems were used as center-fill to ensure proper coverage in the front zone of the stage.  

This series proved to be an ideal choice for an outdoor setup, where operational efficiency and agility are key. Being self-powered systems with integrated DSP, they significantly reduced the need for external equipment, streamlining both logistics and setup. Their compact and lightweight design also helped speed up the installation — a major benefit in a setting shared with other festival activities.
