Viña Rock 2015
D.A.S. Audio at the 20th Viña Rock in Villarrobledo
For yet another year running D.A.S. Aero Series 2 line array systems were on hand to bring powerful sound to the 20th Viña Rock Native Art Festival, held annually in Villarrobledo, Albacete. This year’s spectacular line-up included big names like the Siniestro Total, Def con Dos, Rosendo and Kiko Veneno, who drew in crowds of over 60,000 a day who descended upon the festival’s different stages to hear their favorite performers.
Fluge was once again called in to handle the sound installation and worked closely with D.A.S. Audio and the D.A.S. Aero Series 2 systems on the festival’s main stages. Repeating the same stage configuration as previous years, the Negrita and Zhem stages were set up side-by-side and used alternatively; here the sound technicians opted for both stages in a central formation that was “shared” by both stages. Thus, the Negrita’s left PA formation was the right PA for the Zhem stage during its alternative use.
An army of 36 large-format D.A.S. Aero 50 line array systems were rolled out for the two main stages. These systems were distributed in three linear configurations of 12 systems each with the unique “shared” central formation.
These systems were augmented by 36 D.A.S. high performance self-powered D.A.S. LX-218CA.net subwoofers for the crucial low frequency boost, ground stacked under each line array in three 12-unit blocks and managed with the DASnet™ remote control and management system.
D.A.S. Convert systems handled side fill and front fill at this year’s Viña Rock. The various artists that crossed the stage during the event also had a battery of self-powered D.A.S. Road 12A and 15A stage monitors at their service.
With the control station set up 50 m from the stages, the team decided to install two delay towers equipped with six Aero 40A ALAS™ (Advanced Line Array System) each. Another two delay towers were set up 130 meters out from the stage and rigged with 12 Aero 40A systems to provide full coverage for the massive audience area, including for those fans farthest from the stage.
Aero 50s were also brought in to handle the sound for the Poliakov heavy metal stage. Twenty-four of these systems were flown in linear hangs on either side and were matched with 18 LX-218CA subwoofers set up in two main blocks of nine units each on either side of the stage.
Front fill at the Poliakov stage was handled by D.A.S. Convert 12A systems, while side fill was taken care of the new D.A.S. Aero 20A systems stacked on two LX-218ACA subwoofers.
The new D.A.S. Aero 20A were also deployed as the main PA on the Delicious Seeds stage. Twenty of these mid-size powered line arrays were hung in two ten-unit arrays flanking the stage and matched with eight D.A.S. LX-218CA subwoofers.
