Swedish House Mafia Mumbai
SNL Pro with D.A.S. Audio systems and Swedish House Mafia in Mumbai
Electronic dance music trio Swedish House Mafia decided to bid farewell to their fans in Mumbai for the last leg of their One Last Tour, putting a spectacular end to five years of collaboration. SHM hit India for the first time in the group’s history for the last two dates of the tour as headliners of the Sunburn Arena concert series. The final concert was held at Mumbai’s Turf Club at the Mahalakshmi Race Course and took on epic proportions as the upwards of 30,000 SHM fans descending on the open air venue brought traffic across the city to a standstill. D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems were on hand to provide the massive sound solution required for India’s biggest electronic dance concert to date.
Precept, the force behind the Sunburn Arena, contracted local sound reinforcement provider Sound & Light Professionals (SNL Pro) to design the audio set-up for the SHM performance. Event organizers were well aware of the draw the group’s farewell concert would have; the audio solution would have to be extremely powerful to ensure quality sound for the thousands that were expected for the event. The professionals at SNL Pro, with Systems Engineer Kamesh Patel at the helm, rose to the challenge, trucking in hundreds of D.A.S. Audio systems to guarantee fans superb sound.
The SNL Pro sound team unleashed 32 of the D.A.S. Audio Aero 50 large-format line array systems for the FOH, run by FOH Engineer Bruce Roderick; these rugged and adaptable units are the ideal choice for huge outdoor venues. The Aero 50s were flown in two linear formations of 16 systems each on opposite sides of the stage and were balanced with an equal number of D.A.S. Audio LX-218 subwoofers that were ground stacked in front of the stage in two blocks of 16 systems each.
Front fill duties were handled by a total of six Aero 12A compact line array systems to guarantee coverage for the SHM fans that packed in close to the stage. An additional 16 Aero 50 were deployed for the delay towers, which were set up in the middle of the huge listening area. The SNL Pro sound team also brought in two Digi Design Profile mixing consoles, manned by Monitor Engineer Savio Dsouza, and an impressive 60 Lab.gruppen PLM amps to drive the entire complex system.
Swedish House Mafia brought down the house at the end of their show, performing their hit “Save the World” as their last song together with a digitally re-mastered Indian flag dominating the background. The reliability of the D.A.S. Audio systems that the SNL Pro sound crew deployed for the concert ensured that the Swedish trio’s first and last appearance in Mumbai—the biggest electronic dance music event the city has ever seen—was an experience that won’t soon be forgotten.
