Ponferrada's Templar Night
Ponferrada based "Tecson" provided sound the new Aero 12A
The first full moon of each summer transforms the town of Ponferrada, León, into a medieval Templar town. For four days, the historical centre of the capital of the Bierzo region fills with music, fireworks, street acts and gastronomic tastings, making 'Templar Night' a truly unique festival. Local company Tecson, S.L. used D.A.S. audio systems to provide the sound for the main events of this Ponferrada festival. Tecson, managed by Marcos Rodríguez and José Domingo Macías, took care of providing the lighting and sound for the main areas, such as the route leading up to the Castle, the interior of the medieval fortress and the esplanade of the Albergue de los Peregrinos (Pilgrims' Shelter) on Saint James' Way.
For the 'Templar Dinner' held inside the Castle, 6 D.A.S. self-powered Dynamics systems were used, equipped with a DR-115A 15" speaker. These were distributed throughout the different rooms of the fortress, in which court jesters, meiga sorceresses and singers entertained the revellers. After the dinner, a medieval dance was held on an esplanade inside the castle. Sound for the stage built specifically for the event was provided by the new D.A.S. Aero 12A self-powered line array systems; two 6-unit line array systems plus two powerful D.A.S. Aero 218A 2K self-powered subwoofer units to complement the low frequency response. Signal processing was via a D.A.S. DSP-26 digital signal processor. The clean response of the new Aero 12A systems was evident during the more than 3 hours of entertainment enjoyed by more than 800 attendants dressed in medieval attire.
The solemn 'Templars Parade' event was held the following day. Tecson technicians worked hard to provide sound all along the parade route, distributing a large number of units to cover the more than 500 metres leading up to the castle.
At the start of the parade they installed the reliable D.A.S. Sound Touring systems. A total of 16 D.A.S. ST-215 and ST-218 DSP-26 took care of providing the sound pressure necessary to reach down from the castle walls to the lowest part of the crowd. Four D.A.S. Compact 2 systems were installed in the middle section of the slope, as well as 4 RF-215.95 systems plus 2 Aero 218A subwoofer units. Lastly, on the top area, where the Ponferrada Municipal Band played throughout the event, 5 Dynamics DR-115A units were used. In total, Tecson installed more 32,000 watts' of D.A.S systems.
After the parade there was a folk music concert by the band SOJ and guests on the Albergue de los Peregrinos esplanade, where attendants also enjoyed the 'Templars Beer Fair'. For this event, the company installed D.A.S. Aero 38A self-powered line array systems plus their corresponding Aero 218A 2K subwoofer systems. Cutting-edge D.A.S. Stage Monitor systems were used as monitors. A total of 10 SML-15A systems were distributed across the stage.
In addition to these specific events, D.A.S. Dynamics, RF and MI series systems were deployed across the historic centre of Ponferrada, spread out around the different areas hosting children's workshops, gastronomic tastings, story-telling events, parades, medieval chronicle activities or falconry exhibitions, among many other attractions.
