NH7 Weekender Pune

D.A.S. Audio and SNL Pro ensure flawless sound at India's happiest festival

Three days, multiple stages, almost a hundred artists: dubbed “India’s happiest festival”, Bacardi NH7 Weekender is an indie-music blowout based on the simple idea that people who love different types of music can come together at one festival. Held for the first time in 2010 in Pune, India, NH7 Weekender has expanded to other cities in less than five years with its multi-genre approach that bills metal bands alongside DJs and singer/songwriters in a steadfast commitment to giving Indian artists the same exposure as international headliners. The formula has been a massive success, earning the festival a spot among India’s elite thanks to precise attention to detail in everything from artist lineup to superb sound, provided this year by D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems. For the fifth year running event organizers called in Mumbai-based Sound & Light Professionals (SNL Pro) to design and install the entire sound solution for the NH7 Weekender in Pune. The team, with Jagdish Mutke at the helm, was faced with the unique challenge of designing systems for each stage that could handle a unique blend of artists over three days of almost non-stop music. The technicians drew from D.A.S. Audio’s extensive Aero Series 2, unleashing an army of D.A.S. systems to guarantee even sound coverage and quality for the thousands of fans who descended on Pune’s sprawling Laxmi Lawns for India’s most eclectic festival of the year.

A sizeable deployment of D.A.S. Aero 50 large format line array systems were rolled out at the Bacardi Arena stage, which features heavy metal and alternative rock genres. Twenty Aero 50s were flown in two ten-per-side hangs on the FOH towers beside the stage. These systems were boosted by 24 D.A.S. Aero LX-218 subwoofers, groundstacked in a left-right configuration to provide a crucial low-frequency punch.

SNL Pro opted to use a similar set-up at the festival’s MTS Discover (for young and upcoming singers and songwriters) and Micromax (electronic and dub acts) stages. Two linear hangs of eight D.A.S. Aero 50 line arrays each were flown on opposite sides of the stage, matched by an equal number of groundstacked LX-218 subwoofers.

The sound solution designed for MTS-offshoot the Other stage was no less impressive. Here the technicians relied on D.A.S. Audio’s Aero 28A line array systems, rigging eight on either side of the stage along with two LX-215 high-performance subwoofers. An additional eight LX-218 subwoofers were groundstacked in front of the stage to ensure clear sound for the entire audience area.

SNL Pro also brought in D.A.S. Aero 50 systems for the sound at the Red Bull Tour Bus, a fully mobile concert stage. A total of twelve Aero 50s were flown in hangs on opposite sides of the stage, paired with the same number of groundstacked LX-218 subwoofers.

NH7 Weekender continues to exceed expectations of fans, artists and festival organizers alike, serving up great music in an easygoing ambiance augmented in no small part by the reliable and robust D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems, which have always been a preferred choice among bands in India, says Mutke. “Set-up is a breeze with D.A.S. Audio and its Ease Focus software tool. It saves time and energy and sounds great, too.”
