Low Cost 2013
The 2013 Low Cost Festival with D.A.S. Aero Series 2 line array systems
D.A.S. Audio’s Aero Series 2 systems were one of the highlights at this year’s Low Cost Festival: combined with sun, sand, and three days of live music the systems were the perfect ingredient to ensure a successful festival experience. Celebrated five years running at Benidorm’s Guillermo Amor Stadium, over 75,000 spectators flocked to the concert grounds to see a lineup of some of the world’s best artists, including Two Door Cinema Club, Portishead, Glasvegas, Love of Lesbian and Lori Meyers.
Two stages were set up on the venue’s grounds to handle the massive influx of performers and fans and both were configured with an army of systems from D.A.S. Aero Series 2 product range. Local company Acústica PAE was called in to supply and set up the festival’s sound system, collaborating closely with D.A.S. Audio’s Sound Project Department on system design and installation.
The sound team decided to roll out 24 large-format D.A.S. Aero 50 line array systems for the main Budweiser stage. These powerful and robust systems were flown in two linear formations of 12 line arrays each on opposite sides of the massive stage in a class left-right configuration. These linear setups were rigged with two Aero 12A systems each to handle down fill, ensuring extra coverage for the first few rows of the audience.
Twenty-four powered high-performance D.A.S. LX-218CA subwoofers were deployed for low frequency support and were ground-stacked in front of the stage in pairs set up in an electronic arch configuration. In fill duties were handled by three D.A.S. Convert 15A systems on either side of the stage, while side fill was taken care of by a complete system of six Aero 12A systems flown matched with two ground-stacked LX-218CA subwoofers. Out-fill for the bleachers area was handled by six Aero12A per side. On stage, Road 12A and Road 15A powered monitors covered the needs of the range of performers that crossed the Budweiser stage over the course of the three-day festival.
The sound set up at the similar Energy Sistem stage differed little from the main stage. A main system of 12 Aero 50 systems flown on either side of the stage (without down fill) were matched with 12 LX-218CA subwoofers ground-stacked in front of the stage. Side fill duties were filled by three Convert 12A systems on either side of the stage, stacked on top of two LX-218CA subwoofers. To round out the set up at the Energy Sistem stage Convert 15A systems were brought in for in fill and Road 12A and Road 15A units served as stage monitors.
An impressive army of D.A.S. Audio systems was rolled out to cover the needs of an event and an audience of this magnitude, with two stages and over 75,000 fans: in total, the Acústica PAE sound techs used over 170 units on the Budweiser and Energy Sistem stages. Between D.A.S. Audio’s line array modules (Aero 50 and Aero 12A), subwoofers (LX-218CA), multifunction systems (Convert 12A and Convert 15A) and stage monitors (Road 12A and Road 15A), the sound set up was crucial to the festival’s success. With just five years of history Benidorm’s Low Cost festival has quickly made a name for itself, ranking with FIB and Arenal Sound as Alicante’s leading summer festivals.
