I Beam Bar Malaysia
I Beam Bar amps up their sound with more D.A.S. sound products
|In less than a year the I-Beam Bar has become one of Malaysia’s trendiest disco clubs. The hotspot, with room for 1,500 guests, combines both live music and DJs in a high-tech venue with the latest in lights, effects and sound. Located in Batu Pahat, Johor, around a two-hour drive from Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur, the venue is well-known amongst clubbers even in the capital, who know that making the trip to Batu Pahat is worth it for I-Beam’s incredible club experience. The bar’s popularity led owners to decide to expand their entire sound system a mere six months after opening their doors, doubling the number of the existing D.A.S. products in time for the club’s one year anniversary in November.
Installation for the extended system started in early August 2012 and was completed less than a month later. Club owners contracted Search Music Sdn Bhd, D.A.S. Audio’s exclusive distributor in Malaysia, to handle the complete installation of the new D.A.S. Audio products. Dennix Yeow, Managing Director of Search Music, worked closely with D.A.S. Audio Asia Systems Engineer Ron Koh on systems design and set up.
The biggest challenge for sound techs at a venue of this size—the I-Beam Bar has a 90 ft. by 80 ft. main area with ceiling heights ranging between 17 and 20 feet—is achieving even, solid coverage throughout the entire bar. To meet this challenge the sound team doubled the number of units in the club’s main FOH system: four new Aero 8A units were added to I-Beam’s eight existing units, bring the total to 12 Aero 8As flown in equal clusters per side. Eight of the compact, full-range Avant 15A systems were added to the mix as delay fills for an extra punch.
Sound techs opted to boost the low frequency support as well, adding additional D.A.S. Audio LX-218CA systems for a total of eight units set up in a typical left-right configuration. Four new Avant 12A systems serve as DJ monitors and four Action M12As as stage monitors. Avant 118A handled side fill and the system was rounded out with a D.A.S. DSP-2060 and DSP-4080 digital signal processor.
The upgraded sound with the expanded professional D.A.S. Audio systems has been a resounding success and I-Beam Bar’s one-year anniversary was an event to be remembered. As the owner of I-Beam Bar affirms, “I am very happy with this system, it really performs very well every night…I’m glad to see how the customers enjoy music to the full.”
