Hugo’s Terrace Malta
Hugo's Terrace in Malta is Europe's first install with D.A.S. Artec 500 Series systems
|Popular with locals and tourists alike, the Paceville area of Saint Julian’s in Malta—heavily populated with nightclubs, bars, pubs and restaurants—is the perfect place for a night out on the town. This renovated district has become the hub of Saint Julian's nightlife, and it’s here that local restaurant and nightclub entrepreneur Hugo Chetcuti has opened his newest venue: beachfront bar and grill Hugo’s Terrace. The latest in a long line of successful restaurants and clubs owned by Chetcuti, each one fitted out with products from the D.A.S. Audio catalogue of sound solutions, Hugo’s Terrace is Europe’s first install with the D.A.S. Audio’s Artec 500 series.
With an open-plan that features a large glass-enclosed terrace with panels and a retractable awning that can be opened to create an outdoor feel, Hugo’s Terrace became an instant Paceville hit when it opened in March. Owner Hugo Chetcuti has a long-standing partnership with Futuretech, exclusive D.A.S. Audio’s distributor in Malta, and once again contracted the local company to handle the sound install at his newest venture.
After studying the venue’s particular requirements the sound team, with Futuretech Managing Director Stefan Farrugia at the helm, opted to install new models from the full-range D.A.S. Audio Artec 500 series of products. These second generation systems are a visibly discreet and adaptable solution for permanent installs, ideal for locales like Hugo’s Terrace where both look and performance are top priorities.
Six two-way D.A.S. Artec 526 loudspeakers were rigged in the central wood-paneled bar and seating area; these ultra-compact cabinets fit perfectly with the venue’s décor and provide precise coverage and control for the range of audio needs at Hugo’s Terrace, from televised sports to live music. The loudspeakers were matched with four Artec S15 bass-reflex subwoofers that provide powerful bass reproduction in the venue’s central area.
The wraparound glass terrace is what gives Hugo Chetcuti newest creation its name, and Futuretech treated this open and light-filled space as a separate audio zone. Six D.A.S. Audio Artec 506A two-way powered systems were rigged facing the terrace; the mounting options available with this model make the Artec 506 extremely adaptable and easily configured for customized installs like Hugo’s Terrace. An additional pair of D.A.S. Artec S15 subwoofers rounded out the sound system and were configured to ensure clear sound throughout the outer terrace and bar area.
Entrepreneur Hugo Chetcuti and sound company Futuretech have been working together for 20 years, installing D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems in each of the venues that Chetcuti has opened in Malta. This recipe for success has led to Hugo’s Terrace, the newest addition to the Hugo family where new D.A.S. Audio Artec 500 Series systems have helped turn the Paceville locale into a one-of-a-kind spot to enjoy good food, cocktails, and music just steps from the beach.
