Feria Julio 2013
Three weeks of Feria de Julio Concerts in Valencia with new D.A.S. Aero 40A systems
|Following their recent and successful debut at the Viña Rock Festival in Villarrobledo, D.A.S. Audio’s new Aero 40A advanced line array systems (ALAS™) were called on to give another stellar performance at Valencia’s much-anticipated 2013 “Feria de Julio” or July Festival. This annual event is a three-week combination of activities including exhibitions, sports, theater and concerts; held at the Víveros gardens, the city’s top venue for outdoor events, these concerts consistently attract an impressive line-up of the world’s biggest international artists.
This year’s event was headlined by top international performers including Earth, Wind & Fire and The Original Blues Brothers™ Band, in addition to home-grown talent such as Fito y Fittipaldis, Rosario, Fangoria and Lori Meyers. With over ten concerts and a range of musical styles on the line-up, the three-week Feria de Julio offers a one-of-a-kind chance for locals and tourists alike to see their favorite bands perform live.
Valencian company Acústica PAE was contracted to handle the sound solution for entire concert series and once again worked closely with D.A.S. Audio on the technical aspects of the set-up. D.A.S. Technical Director Javier Navarro and Systems Engineer Joel Damiano worked hand in hand with the Acústica PAE team, monitoring both system rigging and sound system adjustments.
After analyzing the specific needs of the Feria de Julio concert area the sound team deployed D.A S. Audio powered three-way Aero 40A speakers for the main PA. A total of 24 Aero 40As were flown over the stage in matching linear configurations of 12 systems each.
These powerful and robust systems were matched with an additional 24 D.A.S. LX-218CA high-performance powered subwoofers for low frequency support. Grouped into pairs, these systems were ground stacked in front of the stage in a cardiod configuration. Front fill duties were filled by the ultra-compact D.A.S. Aero 8A line array module and a small army of D.A.S. Road 12A and Road 15A were rolled out to handle stage monitoring.
Each of the cabinets deployed were self-powered and all remote monitoring and control duties were handled via DASnet™ audio management software. This application allows users to instantly and easily control the main parameters of a single cabinet or a complete network of systems like that set up at the Feria de Julio. The entire sound solution was rounded out by D.A.S. DSP-2060A and DSP-4080 digital signal processors.
Feedback from the sound technicians working with the range of groups that crossed the stage during the Feria de Julio was excellent. The system’s high-performance and power and easy equipment adjustments between acts—requiring nothing more than a few minor tweaks—was highly valued by technicians. These advantages are crucial at events like the Feria de Julio that feature a range of artists and musical styles, making the D.A.S. Aero 40A systems the perfect fit for festivals and outdoor events.
