D.A.S Sounds at Armenian Concert
Compact series for the concert, featuring top US jazz guitarist, Al Di Meola
D.A.S sound systems recently took the stage at an event held in Yerevan, the industrial, cultural and scientific capital of Armenia. The company Armrosgas sponsored a huge concert which took place at the infamous Republic Square last September 12th.
The company Forte Musical Center, led by Tigran Arshakian provided sound reinforcement installing systems from the D.A.S . Several members of the government were among the audience and it was the first time for an Armenian audio company to take charge of the sound system for such a large scale event.
The concert also included performances by the popular Armenian artist Arto Tunçboyaciyan who toured for a long time alongside Al Di Meola, as well as Jivan Gasparyan, Park Gorki and Nemtsov. Just before the concert began, the audience was treated to a delightful display of a traditional Armenian dance called Kochari.
A total of 32 Compact 2 systems were installed for the P.A. system. 16 mid-high range Compact 2 units were flown on each side of the stage together with 16 low frequency Compact 218 subwoofer units, stacked on the floor. Four Compact 115 units handled front fill resulting in optimum front row sound coverage. The combination of Compact 2 and Compact 218 Sub units provided immensely powerful sound.
Hailed as one of the leading artists in jazz fusion, Al Di Meola takes his inspiration from non-western traditional sounds and brings rock and world music together as one. His prolific solo career includes incredible fusion guitar-based classics such as 'Land of the Midnight Sun' (1976), 'Elegant Gypsy' and 'Casino' (1977) as well as 'Splendido Hotel' (1979). He also got together with two other top guitar legends; John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía to record the acclaimed 'Friday Night in San Francisco' back in 1980. His success continued in the 80's and 90's touring with artists such as Paul Simon, Jean Luc Ponty, Stanley Jordan, Corea, Clarke and de Lucía.
