D.A.S. at Gods of Metal
Manowar and D.A.S. at the Gods of Metal Festival in Milan
The unstoppable heavy metal group Manowar, with the help of the D.A.S. Aero Series 2, pumped up the volume at the internationally famous Gods of Metal festival. The festival celebrated its 15th anniversary this year at the Arena Concerti fairgrounds in Milan, Italy, bringing in names as big as Manowar, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crüe and Slash. Though this was Manowar’s fourth appearance at the festival, the concert marked the American band’s return to Italy after a 10-year absence.
The D.A.S. systems at Gods of Metal were used exclusively by Manowar, known as the world’s loudest band: the group holds the Guinness World Record for the loudest performance, and they’ve broken their own record twice. German sound company Soundart headed the sound equipment supply and setup for Manowar’s Gods of Metal performance. Bringing the sound for the world’s loudest band poses serious challenges, and Soundart knew that only D.A.S. Aero systems could meet the band’s distinct need for power, clarity, and versatility.
Soundart technicians held nothing back for Manowar’s performance at Gods of Metal and brought out 32 large D.A.S. Aero 50 line arrays for the event. These 3-way systems were flown in a typical left/right configuration, 16 elements each side of the stage at a height of 10 meters, guaranteeing excellent sound coverage for the entire audience.
Obviously, Manowar needs impressive bass support to be the world’s loudest band, and sound technician’s set up an army of 36 powered high-performance D.A.S. LX-218CA subwoofers.
These systems were also deployed in Manowar’s standard sound set up, a left/right configuration of 18 units each ground-stacked on either side of the stage. The sheer number of D.A.S. equipment that Manowar needs for its performance guarantees the "loud and bombastic" sound that the band’s fans, known as the "Army of Immortals", have come to expect.
The return of band frontrunner Joey DeMaio and his boys to Italy, where the group has a huge following of diehard fans, resulted in a packed house at Milan’s Arena Concerti. Opening act HolyHell kicked off the concert, followed by an unforgettable performance by Manowar; the band played hits from recent albums as well as some classics in the band’s same heavy metal and power metal style that has defined Manowar since its debut in 1979.
