Best Cycling 2013
D.A.S. Aero lne array systems for The Best Cycling Challenge 2013
|The Best Cycling Challenge 2013 (Desafío Best Cycling) is Spain’s largest outdoor spinning event. For four years running the event has drawn fans of this growing sport to Valencia, where this year D.A.S. professional sound systems were on hand to tirelessly set the pace for the participants. The two-day event, held in the Marina Real Juan Carlos I in Valencia’s port, brought together over 600 spinning fans from all corners of Spain who couldn’t miss the chance to practice their favorite sport outdoors with hundreds of other cyclists.
The Best Cycling Challenge 2013 was held at the huge esplanade in front of the Veles e Vents building, where hundreds of stationary bikes were set up along with stands for spectators. The country’s top spinning instructors were brought in for the event and gave numerous classes to the participants who descended on Valencia’s port for the occasion. Music is a crucial element in an outdoor event like this challenge, where it serves to motivate the athletes and set the pace of the workouts. Enter D.A.S. Audio, whose professional sound systems provided clear and powerful sound that helped ensure the success of the fourth Best Cycling Challenge.
Local company Sonilight S.L., with Javier Zaragozá and Jaime Castell at the helm, was brought in to handle the sound installation. The sound team, challenged with providing sound for a massive esplanade complete with 600 spinning bikes and spectator stands, opted to roll out the powerful D.A.S. Aero Series 2 line array systems for this event. Twelve D.A.S. Aero 12A cabinets were flown in a typical left/right configuration, six elements each side to guarantee excellent sound coverage for both cyclists and spectators. The line arrays were paired with a robust set of 12 high-performance D.A.S. LX-218 CA subwoofers for low-end support.
To solve the problem posed by the width of the listening area the Sonilight sound team deployed eight multifunction D.A.S. Convert 1560A powered systems in a semicircle formation on either side of the stage, setting up the loudspeakers in pairs to ensure clear sound coverage for the entire esplanade full of cyclists. On stage, the monitors were backed by two additional Convert 1560A loudspeakers that served as side fill. The sound configuration at the Best Cycling Challenge 2013 was rounded out with a D.A.S. DSP-4080 digital signal processor that handled signal management and control for the entire set-up.
The two-day event included two night classes on Friday and six classes the following day with breaks in between: three classes were held on Saturday morning and another three in the late afternoon, with a midday break for participants to relax and recuperate during the hottest part of the day. The successful fourth edition of Valencia’s Best Cycling Challenge 2013 was topped off with a closing party held on one of the most spectacular terraces in Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences complex.
