Arenal Sound 2014
D.A.S. Audio returns to Arenal Sound 2014
|Once again D.A.S. Aero Series 2 line array systems were on hand at the Arenal Sound Festival to help ensure the event’s success. Held annually at Arenal beach in Burriana (Castellón), this four-day festival played host to numerous top-name artists including Placebo, Crystal Fighters, The Wombats, Iván Ferreiro and Miles Kane. The massive crowd of 60,000 fans who descended upon Arenal beach each day to see their favorite bands perform is evidence of the festival’s enormous popularity, which has turned Arenal Sound into Spain’s biggest festival of the year.
Madrid-based sound company Fluge was called in to handle the sound reinforcement for the festival and teamed up with D.A.S. Audio, whose systems were set up on all three of the main stages. A veritable army of systems was deployed on the biggest Desperados stage, where the sound team decided to roll out 32 large-format D.A.S. Aero 50 line arrays, flown in linear formations of 16 units each on either side of the stage. These systems were augmented by 36 powered D.A.S. LX-218CA subwoofers for low-frequency support, ground stacked in front of the stage in 12 three-unit blocks set up in a cardioid configuration to ensure the widest coverage possible.
Aero 12A units combined with Convert 1560A systems served as front fill, while 18 additional Aero 12A handled side fill duties. To round out the system on the main Desperados stage the sound team brought in D.A.S. Road 12A and 15A stage monitors. To provide even coverage for the long audience area two delay towers were once again positioned about 50 meters from the stage just behind the FOH tower, with eight D.A.S. Aero 50 line array systems flown from each.
The system set-up at the Negrita stage, where 30 new .A.S. Aero 40A ALAS™ (Advanced Line Array System) were deployed, was no less impressive. These Aero 40As were divided into two linear formations of 15 units each and flown on either side of the stage. Twenty-eight high-performance powered DAS LX-218CA subwoofers, ground stacked in front of the stage, took care of low frequency support. Convert 15A powered systems, stacked on the LX-218CA subwoofers, were used for side fill, while Aero 12A systems were brought in for front fill. On stage, the artists were backed up by the powered D.A.S. Series Road stage monitors.
The sound technicians decided to roll out 24 of the always reliable D.A.S. Aero 50 line array systems at the Inside stage, rigging the units in two linear hangs and matching them with 24 LX-218CA subwoofers. The Red Bull Tour Bus also made a stop at the festival; this original “moving stage”, sponsored by the famous sports drink, makes its rounds to Spain’s biggest festivals and has been equipped with D.A.S. Aero Series 2 systems since it first hit the road.
