D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems recently ensured flawless sound at Spain’s 2014 Top 40 Awards Ceremony (Los Premios 40 Principales). A full house of over 15,000 people packed into Madrid’s Barclaycard Center for the event, which recognizes the best in Spanish and international music and brings together some of the biggest names on the global music scene.
The line-up included a number of those big names, including Pablo Alborán, Malú, David Bisbal, One Direction, Birdy and Maldita Nerea, who performed at the ceremony backed by the superb sound of D.A.S. Audio systems.
Event organizers once again called in Fluge, an all-service production company with ample experience in events of this kind, to handle the sound for the ceremony. The team decided to deploy systems from the D.A.S. Aero Series 2 catalogue of products to provide powerful and robust yet clear sound. A total of 32 large-format line D.A.S. Aero 50 line array systems were brought in and flown on either side of the stage in two arrays of 16 systems each for the main PA.
Given the size of the stage and the audience area the technicians rigged an additional 24 D.A.S. Aero 40A ALAS™ (Advanced Line Array Systems) in two arrays of 12 units each to handle out fill.
Fluge employed powerful low frequency support to match the size and power of the main system, ground stacking 32 high-performance powered D.A.S. LX-218CA subwoofers in a cardioid formation in front of the stage.
To fill the gap for the front rows of the audience Fluge brought in the new D.A.S. Aero 20A ALAS™ compact line array systems, the first time these systems have been used. A total of eight of these powered systems were set up for front fill, augmented with six D.A.S. Convert 15A systems to take care of down fill.
Stage monitor duties at this macro concert were handled by a small army of Road 12A and 15A systems, distributed across the stage to meet the needs of the different performers at the Top 40 Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony was a resounding success, not only because some of the most famous artists in music today performed their recent hits but also because of the award winners. The list of artists who picked up a Top 40 award this year included Malú, the biggest winner of the night with three awards, along with David Bisbal, Enrique Iglesias, the British boy band One Direction and singer Birdy.
Since they were first held in 2006 the Top 40 Awards, given by the Cadena Ser radio station, have quickly become Spain’s biggest and most-anticipated musical event of the year. The money earned at the ceremony has been donated to charity since the awards were created, with this year’s event benefitting the VOCES foundation and its project to encourage creativity and music among young people at risk of social exclusion.
